Funchatter (funchatter.com) is a free website for trivia, word scramble and hangman. This page explains what we collect and why, in plain language. Game Rooms are for playing games together — not a social hangout for meeting strangers.
What we collect
- Account: username (you log in with it; it can't be changed), nickname (the name others see; you can change it about once a week), email address, password (stored only as a one-way hash — we never see your password in plain text), and gender (required at sign-up so profiles and Game Rooms can show boys and girls differently).
- Optional photos: up to 8 profile photos you choose to upload. Photos are optional.
- Gameplay: which rooms you play, your answers, points and streaks (solo games and live Game Rooms), so leaderboards and your profile can show your totals.
- Messages you send: Chat and Game Room messages, private messages (PMs), and friend requests. Other players can see what you post in public places; PMs are only between the two of you (and site admins if needed for safety).
- Technical: a short-lived captcha check when you sign up or reset a password, your IP address on sessions and rate limits (to stop spam and abuse), and when you were last active.
Cookies and sessions
We use a few first-party cookies so the site works:
- fc_sid — keeps you logged in (about 30 days, or until you log out).
- fc_pre — a short token for anonymous forms (sign-up / log in) so bots can't spam them.
- fc_flash — a one-time success/error message after a form, then it is cleared.
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party trackers on Funchatter pages.
How we use your information
- To run your account, verify your email, reset passwords and keep you logged in.
- To run the games, Chat, Game Rooms, friends and leaderboards.
- To protect the site (captcha, rate limits, removing spam and abuse).
- We send email only for account needs (verify your address, reset your password). Messages come from no-reply@funchatter.com. We do not send marketing emails.
Where data is stored
Your account data, messages and photos live on our own cPanel server for funchatter.com. We do not sell your personal information. We do not rent or trade mailing lists.
Unverified accounts
After you sign up we email a confirmation link. If the email is not confirmed within 72 hours, that account (and any photos it uploaded) is deleted automatically.
Who can see what
- Your email is never shown to other players.
- Username, nickname, gender, avatar/photos, points and public posts are visible to other logged-in members as part of the site.
- Site admins can review accounts and content when needed to enforce the community rules or keep people safe.
Age requirement (13+)
Funchatter is for users who are 13 or older. If you are under 13, do not create an account. If a parent or guardian finds an under-13 account, email support@funchatter.com from a reachable address and we will delete it. Please do not put a real address, phone number, school name or other private details in a nickname, bio, photo, Chat message, Game Room, or private message. See Online Safety for practical tips.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the effective date on this page.
